SoundBase was born from firsthand frustration with outdated and inefficient audio workflows. Whether you’re in live events or the studio, audio teams need modern tools that accelerate creativity—not add complexity. We built our platform to eliminate friction, so you spend less time wrangling emails and files, and more time collaborating and producing together in real time, no matter the project size or deadline.
Explore the story of SoundBase and discover our journey of innovation and achievement.
The Beginning
2020 — October
SoundBase was founded by Donny Kuser and Matt Dale—audio professionals who spent years navigating inefficient production workflows. When the COVID pandemic revealed just how critical remote collaboration had become, it exposed longstanding gaps in how teams shared information and worked together. Inspired by these challenges, Donny and Matt set out to build a unified platform that empowers audio teams to seamlessly collaborate, no matter the distance.
Nexus Application
2020 — November
November 2020 marked the debut of Nexus: a streamlined intercom tracking solution. With Nexus, teams could instantly see the location of intercoms and effortlessly track headset sanitization between users—promoting both safety and coordination. Its powerful reception spurred us to quickly advance its features and capabilities.
Coord Application
2021 — February
Through countless conversations with audio professionals, we heard the same frustrations: frequency coordination tools were clunky, unintuitive, and missing critical features. Most existing solutions focused on supporting specific hardware, neglecting user experience, while different wireless brands rarely played well together—making true integration a headache. Our mission became clear: build a single, intuitive platform that eliminates those obstacles, allowing teams to coordinate frequencies and work together seamlessly, regardless of the brands or gear in their setup.
Closed Beta Announcement
2021 — June
We launched the SoundBase private beta, inviting a select group of audio professionals to test our first two applications—Nexus and Coord. The closed beta began with around 20 participants but quickly expanded to over 100 within a month as more users eagerly requested access.
Open Beta Announcement
2021 — October
With strong demand from the audio community, we announced the SoundBase open beta across social media and industry forums. Over 200 people signed up in the first week alone. All expenses for additional server capacity and increased traffic were personally funded by Donny and Matt to ensure continued access for everyone.
1,000 User Milestone
2022 — May
Reaching 1,000 users marked a major milestone and fueled the momentum of our passionate community. To further nurture this growth, we launched a Discord server—creating a vibrant space for users to connect, share ideas, and provide direct feedback to Donny and Matt. This real-time collaboration has driven ongoing improvements and innovation for SoundBase.
SoundBase Desktop is launched
2024 — January
Responding to frequent requests from our community, we launched SoundBase Desktop—a fully installable version for both Mac and Windows. This release delivered sought-after features like offline support and paved the way for future hardware connectivity. With it, we introduced SoundBase Pro: a paid license giving users access to the robust desktop experience on their device of choice.
10,000 User Milestone
2024 — March
Reaching 10,000 active users was a major milestone—proof that audio teams were choosing SoundBase to collaborate and get work done. Users around the world were adopting it: big corporations, sound companies, and production companies were picking it up as a vital tool for their show workflows.
Sennheiser Group acquires SoundBase
2024 — September
The Sennheiser Group acquires SoundBase as a brand, pledging to support the continued growth of our applications and community. Importantly, they commit to preserving what users love most about SoundBase—keeping it brand-agnostic and independent from Sennheiser Electronics, so our mission and spirit remain unchanged.

Enterprise plan announced
2025 — January
As our community and the number of SoundBase Pro users rapidly expanded, more businesses began seeking an Enterprise solution—one that enables teams to centrally manage licenses, delegate access, and maintain clear oversight of SoundBase usage throughout their organization. In response, we introduced a flexible licensing model specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of growing businesses.
Growing the team
2025 — May
Peter D'Angelo joins SoundBase as lead developer, accompanied by several talented new team members with extensive backgrounds in audio production and software engineering. Their expertise and enthusiasm accelerate our growth and further strengthen both the product and our community.
New business model introduced
2026 — February
We introduce a new business model that lets users access SoundBase Desktop for free—no paid license required. While some premium features remain exclusive, the free version now includes more capabilities than ever before. To maintain our commitment to brand agnosticism, these free features are available across all equipment brands, allowing users to experience SoundBase Desktop on their own terms.
